2012, A year for Change and Reflection

2012 is supposed to be a year of great change. I can't say that I agree with the theorists that believe the world is going to come to an abrupt end on Dec. 21, 2012. But I am smart enough to realize that this is a year for necessary change and new beginnings... as well as enlightenment.

We live in a fast paced world, a world of instant gratification and rapidly growing technological advances. At the touch of our fingertips, vast knowledge streams almost instantaneously. We live in a world where a majority of the books being read today don't have pages that you can touch, feel, or even smell. We live in a world where status updates, twitter feeds, and text messaging have replaced genuine conversation. A handwritten letter is a thing of the past and love notes have become an endangered species. As our technology increases our interpersonal communication suffers and we as a society, are being drawn away from the things that are truly important.

This year is a year of change for me. Thanks to a good friend and confidant, my eyes have been opened to a new world of possibilities. I choose to re-train my mind and focus on the things that are truly important in life:  Building strong relationships through open/honest communication, practicing techniques that allow for inner reflection and self discovery as well as finding natural methods of coping with stress through meditation.

It is important to take time to reflect and focus on positive thoughts. Negative thoughts come to fruition so easily, I choose to find a more positive response to the stress in my life. I intend to use this blog to chronicle my changes, my experiences and the lessons that I am learning along my "Soul Journey".
